“I received very simple advice that I could use immediately. As a first-time parent, I guess I just needed to hear it from an outside person who knew more about what works with kids than I do. It gave me more confidence as a parent.”
— Christine Tynan, Destination Parenting client
Parenting Tips:
The pressure to be a perfect parent is intense and unattainable, so why do we play into it? Dr. Mo wants you to understand and accept the style of a “good-enough” parent.
Tip #1:
How do I Tell if My Child is Spoiled?
It is important to keep in mind that an occasional tantrum doesn’t necessarily mean your child is spoiled. Her behavior can mean:
• She isn’t getting her needs met.
• She’s hungry.
• She’s tired.
• She’s overstimulated.
• She’s nervous.
It can also mean, as a parent:
→ You’ve asked her for too much.
→ You’ve been unclear.
→ You’ve been inconsistent in what you’ve asked.
→ You haven’t followed through.
The good news is YOU can help your child regulate her behavior, which will lead to less stress. Dr. Mo can show you how.
Tip #2:
What Do I Do When Parents/Caregivers Disagree?
We all come into the world having been parented ourselves. This history carries forth into our parenting style once we have children. Your child’s behavior can become a challenge if:
• You and your partner have very different parenting values.
• You and your partner have very different temperaments.
• You and your partner approach situations differently.
• You and your partner live in different places.
•You and your partner disagree in front of your child.
Children are very perceptive and pick up on parenting differences. Sometimes a child acts out because the situations are confusing. As they get older, they can even take advantage of things by pitting one parent vs. another. Dr. Mo can help when you are faced with parenting complications like this.
